Feline Friday - 8/28/20

 Today is Momma's last summer Friday off work...

I didn't steal the rocks ... Momma did!

I best clean up and make a good show of appreciating that she's home to care for my every whim. 

I know just where to find her if I want more snackies : in the Quilt Lab!!!!

Wednesday Weather Report #171 - 8/26/20

I know it's probably hard to tell from the hexies but there is a touch of fall in the air as the overnight temps have consistently been in the 50s and 60s. This weekend it might drop into the 40s. Fall is my fav time of the year, not just for the fall colors, but the cool nights and warm days.

My office building was built as a bank in 1909 - there are still deposit stubs in the basement from the 1920s! In wooden crates! At an unknown date the building was converted to an appliance store and then into the Town Hall in 1985. Luckily a lot of the original marble and hexie tile floors remain but the lovely 25+ foot high, heavily decorated ceilings are now hidden under drop ceiling tiles. I am not sure during which of the 2 transitions this deposit door was mounted to the outside wall but I'm glad they did it!!

Are y'all enjoying the temperature pictures with something "backgroundy" or should I stick with the close ups of the hexies, as I did for the last 3 years?

Feline Friday - 8/21/20

 If it fits, I sits!!!

This is one of those trays you get with plants at a nursery. Momma set it outside to return to the nursery but I claimed it as my own. Obvs!

I can stretch out to fill the whole tray or I can also curl up in half of it. 

If I don't come home at night Momma will usually find me in my tray when she gets up, curled around my walnut. Don't ask.

Wednesday Weather Report #170 - 8/19/20

 I can't say there was anything exciting to report on this week's weather. Many storms were threatened with lovely dark clouds, thunder and lightening and a 3 hour power outage on Sunday afternoon but very little rain actually appeared. I will definitely be checking the national drought monitor tomorrow to see if my county is on abnormally dry or drought status yet. It has said no all summer, yet everything is very dry.

Very fall like weather no?  It's been delightful!

The photo was taken on a sidewalk chalk drawing left over from the weekend's chalk art festival, which was delayed from July thanks to The Rona. Not a great pic of the "weather" but after 3.25 years, I bet you don't need closeups of the hexies so much all the time. Wink. 

Feline Friday - 8/14/20

Momma came home from work Tuesday to find this toy in her my yard. Momma has never bought this particular toy, nor does she bring any of my other toys outside. 

Momma is threatening to find out where I stole the toy from and return it - maybe she will then bring another toy outside for me to play with!! If I had thought that would work,  I would have stolen the toy ages ago.

And no, I'm not telling where it came from...no matter how many treats she hands over...

I can't say that the weather has been too interesting other than some extremely high humidity overnight Monday which made for poor sleeping.

Having received more comments on Friday's post about Blogger v IG than I have on any other topic in a long time, I've decided to stick with both Blogger and IG. I'll try to post different content and, if nothing else, like today, I'll post a different picture and word it different. I hope all y'all will still speak up and let me  know you are out there. Even a smiley emoji is fun to receive. 

Feline Friday - 8/7/20

Momma posted my first picture earlier this week to her new Instagram account (@sarahdidit17). 

She really likes how easy it is to post on IG from her phone since we don't have internet at home. She's afraid, tho, that if she switched completely from Blogger to IG that she would lose her my followers, among other issues. She definitely wouldn't miss all the weird foreign accounts now posting on her blog but that isn't necessarily a reason to switch as trolls are everywhere.

Any thoughts? Are you on IG? Would you miss us on Blogger? Who even reads blogs anymore? Would you want the same or different posts on Blogger versus IG or as long as you know where to find Momma me you'll follow along any where?

Wednesday Weather Report #168 - 8/5/20

The weather for the last week was pretty standard for this time of year. Luckily I wasn't camping yesterday when the tropical storm passed over the Adirondack Mountains. Eek! My brother is camping there this week but they have a huge camper so they shouldn't have floated away like my poor tent might have.

Today's post was written with the new Blogger format - let's not say I'm a fan. As with anything new,  there is a learning curve so I am going to give it the good ol' college try cuz in the end they are sticking us with it next month, whether we like it or not. Wish me luck!

The Bibliophile Files - 8/4/20

Welcome to my monthly book report!!

Can you tell I went camping this month? 18 books in 4 weeks might be my personal best. Camping always provides a good boost to my reading list (I'm now 4 books ahead of schedule to finish 90 this year) but I've also been a good girl and cutback on my TV/DVD watching so I could do more reading/listening. The original plan was just through the end of July but here we are into August and I haven't watched but maybe one DVD a week since vacation.

FINISHED
     The 57 Bus - The true story of a cross dressing teen burned by another teen on the bus to school. One white, one black, one poor, one not.
     Twisted Tree - Written from the differing perspectives of various people who knew a murdered girl. Seemed a little disjointed with all the viewpoints that were not necessarily brought back to the center of the story but maybe that's just cuz I was multitasking while listening to the book.
     Three Cups of Tea - I found the book an interesting read about the culture of a part of the world I know little about, but could imagine all the events happening as described, while a man tried to build schools for girls. In reviewing goodreads.com comments, there are a lot that refer to fraud and exaggerations in the book. I guess I'll take the book as it was intended but be forewarned if anyone else wants to read it. I especially liked where the title came from and found it true no matter what the backstory of the book is.

     A Christmas Carol: What if Scrooge were a Woman? - Once again, I was multitasking but I didn't notice enough differences from the original book to make this really worth one's time. Thankfully it was on the short side.
     Picture Us in the Light - A great YA story about family secrets and how they shape our future.
     Twelfth Night
     The Hundred Foot Journey
     Secret Soldiers - Interesting history of soldiers trained to deceive the Nazi's with inflatable tanks and recorded troop movements. I don't think I've ever even heard of these soldiers before.
     Judge & Jury - mob boss versus juror #11. Several nice twists at the end.
     Fake - a dramatization when I was looking for more details
     Gideon's Corpse
     The Murderer's Daughter
     Hill Women: Finding Family and a Way Forward in the Appalachian Mts - This needs to be my last Appalachian book for a long time. The 'woah is me' story has gotten old after several similar stories. It was probably a good book if I wasn't already tired of the theme.
     The Dry - Book 1 in the Aaron Falk series. I read #2 last month. The series takes place in Australia and this one is about a man accused of murder years ago who returns home for the funeral of his friend who supposedly killed his wife and son before himself. I've started the third book today and while the investigator is the same, the books appear independent.
     Bullseye
     The Deep
     A Land More Kind Than Home - The topic is hard to listen to (snakes in church worship, death, etc) but it's well written in that each chapter is written from a different character's viewpoint, pulling in a story from their past that guides their current lives.
