Bonnie - we need to have a talk. What's with you and these string blocks? I spent all weekend working on those blasted red strings and they are still not done. It's sewwww hard to cut strips crooked and without really measuring so that there is enough variety. Then the sewing and the sewing and the sewing. I mean I have no problem cutting and sewing 700+ half square tri's so why oh why can't I sew a measly 64 string blocks? and then trim them? and then tear the paper off?
I have at least 1 more row of red strings to add to this pile:
And I have to remove the paper from this pile:
Now I just have to do the tiny blue string blocks for Orca Bay and the neutral string blocks for Roll Roll Cotton Boll...
Ok, the blocks are pretty - and yes, I finished 2 great audiobooks this weeked but these blocks just drive me CRAZY...
If you don't hear from me in a while...check the local loony bin...
Hehehehehehehe............
ReplyDeleteWe need to team up!! I'd so much rather do the strings than the triangles!! I have mine (red strings) done, but not trimmed or well...the rest of it done!! I am going to try and get back to this one in a couple of weeks, I got side tracked...as usual!!
ReplyDeleteWe are in the same boat!
ReplyDeleteBetter not let Bonnie hear you whining!! I'll tell you, it's going to all be worth it when you see your beautiful finished product. I was grousing a little too but I'm SO glad I persevered! It's a beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE making string blocks. I actually sold over 200 of them for one of Bonnie's quilts that called for neutral string blocks last year.
ReplyDeleteI make my own strings by trimming ends of fabric before I cut for other projects. I have to FORCE myself to leave more than just a sliver. And I am also trying to keep them color separated now.
XOXOXO Subee
I am a cheater because I knew I wouldn't be able to do it! Remember I used striped fabric instead of strings. : ) At least you are still persevering!!
ReplyDeleteI really love doing the string blocks better than the rest of Orca Bay. I had to stop on the strings and go back to finishing step 1 first. Your quilt well really be worth all of the piecing. I am seeing some pretty ones in blog land.
ReplyDeleteBut they look so nice in their pile.
ReplyDeleteI would offer to get rid of the paper but I'm a little to far away.
The string blocks get very addictive.
Can't wait to see more.
Hang in there - you will get them done! I still have my ONE string block completed!
ReplyDeleteI've never made string blocks...but I HAVE to in the very near future, so I'm anxious. You are NOT helping. LOL!! At least I only have to make four. Your work is always so pretty -- these blocks will be no different!!! (And hey -- you are going to mention that today, Tuesday, 1/17, is your birthday, right??!!) HUGS!!! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is funny how some people love strings and others hate them, I'm in the "love" group. Keep going, they look great!
ReplyDeleteI agree, what's with the string blocks? Personally I just can't bring myself to save strings because I already have overflowing scrap boxes of more usable sizes! Which I should be using....Sigh. Your string blocks look great!
