i DO remember how to use my sewing machine!

Just so all y'all know - I thought I would share a few recent projects, proving that I  DO remember how to use my Bernina!

I've made a few more leader/ender basket blocks. There is actually another one almost done and several more cut out ready to be stitched. You're probably thinking that something looks a little different with my basket blocks...that's because I am throwing in a few odd ball baskets just to keep it interesting. I know - I'm easily amused!

In the box is the 60+ finished baskets just to show you the different baskets. It's super easy to switch out a 4 patch for a HST to come up with a really different look.

I've also been participating in Pam Buda's Market Day SAL and just finished up week three's blocks. Good timing since #4 is posted tomorrow. Since I had them out for a photo, I thought I would play with some layout ideas. Top left is my favorite. Maybe I should mention I am making the mini size: each of these blocks is 2" unfinished.

Now, don't forget to come back this Saturday for the next HeLP for Hexie-aholics linky party to remind yourself again just how much I am addicted to hexies!!! :)  Cya then!

Actual machine sewing!

Yup - you read that correctly - I actually did some machine sewing last Friday. Amazing, huh?!

I started by making a practice block for this quilt I saw in a magazine. The magazine was an impulse purchase on the way to the mountains when I was still ticked off about my car. Should have saved the money to help pay for the car but this was a scrappy quilt magazine and my resolve to not buy magazines had dissolved.

I debated what fabrics to use and then remembered I have a small collection of cat fabrics. I even have a large chunk that would work for a backing - it's the backside of cats. That doesn't sound right - it's not their bums, it's just that they are facing away from the viewer.

I know I needed another project like another hole in the head but without one block to put on the design wall I would have forgotten about this great pattern and it was sew sew easy to do.

I also finally picked some fabrics for my Temecula Quilts summer stars sew along.

You are probably wondering how I came up with that motley crew of fabric and it's because I started with this adorable cupcake fabric. I hope to use the grey for binding or borders or something other than the blocks.

I finished the following blocks last Friday and I think with tomorrow's posting I will have 3 more to do to catch up. Easy Peasy. It's not too late if you want to join in.

I also worked on one of the BOM blocks for a class I teach and had a helper who didn't really want his picture taken...

Almost Wordless Wednesday

I've got my fourth star block of the Pocket Patchwork sewalong done...I haven't done step 5 (sashing) yet since I am waiting for this week's installment (borders) so I can figure out where to use that little bit of teal fern fabric that I have.

Design Wall Monday - 4/16/12

Ok, sew I have no self control...I started another sew-a-long!!

This time it's six 6" finished stars. Not quite as cute a the 4" baskets but still cute.

The SAL is hosted by Pam Buda @ Heartspun Quilts and she's calling it Pocket Patchwork - Busy Work, based on the projects women stowed in their pockets in case they had a few minutes to spare. The SAL is actually half over already but I spent the last 3 weeks trying to talk myself out of another new project before I finally gave in. LOL.

I finished blocks 1 and 2 this weekend. I had planned to go more scrappy, as the pattern calls for, but decided I liked the first block enough to keep these fabrics for each block. She hasn't posted her layout yet but I am hoping to use that fern fabric for the sashing or borders since it was the color inspiration.

I'll get block 3 done sometime this week and will be looking forward to block 4 this Friday...
