Feline Friday Special Edition - 11/23/18

Today is a very special Thanksgiving edition of Feline Friday! I'm going to share all the cats in my life that I've been thankful for and I hope that a lot of people will be joining in with blog posts or comments on their furry children.

I've had 8 cats in my life and that's not counting the friendly strays or cats of friends and neighbors. Be sure to check the links for more pictures and gotcha stories on each cat.

My first cat, Fluffy, was dumped off at the end of our driveway when I was a kid. We lived in the country and sadly this seemed to be a normal occurrence. Fluffy, a long haired calico, was named by my little brother and she gave birth to tiny kittens in the attic just a couple days later. We found homes for the kittens (I cried) and then eventually had to find a home for Fluffy as my brother was allergic. I don't have any pictures of Fluffy given that most of my parent's photos are on slides!

Marbles

My next cat was as a 20-something living in Miami. We had just moved there and this friendly black & white cat was hanging around our apartment building. I eventually brought her inside and later learned that she had "ran" out of a neighbors apartment and they had never tried to bring her back inside. They gave me "permission" to adopt her - as if I was gonna give her back. I named her Marbles because she was mostly white with a few random black spots and I couldn't very well call a cat Spot  - that was too dog like.

Tula
8/12/02 - 5/15/10

Pepper
8/12/02 - 9/9/13

My next cats came as a mother and son pair. I worked at the University of Miami at the time and when we came in to work Monday morning someone had dropped them off overnight. I quickly convinced my roommate to let me adopt them and brought Tula and Pepper home. Pepper was still nursing and still had tiny little blue eyes. Tula was a Main Coon mix and Pepper was a Main Coon mix mix. They were both large cats with gorgeous long fur. I jokingly talked to them in Spanish instead of English - it was a Miami thing. They both moved with me to NY where we didn't have quite as much sun to sit in but I think they liked it.

Squeaky
2008? - 5/19/16

Gotcha Day: 11/23/10

Squeaky was my first NY cat. She was a stray that was fed by the liquor store owner next to my office. I would often sit on the back steps and talk with her at lunch - she squeaked instead of meowed. She had a couple litters of kittens over the course of a year and eventually disappeared. I asked the lady if she had seen her and found out that Squeaky had been spayed and given to the upstairs tenants. I randomly said if they ever changed their mind, I would take her. In less than 2 weeks there was a note on my windshield that I could have her - they hadn't even named her yet. She was very appreciative as she always had to sit in my lap or be near me no matter what I was doing. Squeaky wouldn't bother quilts I had layed out on the floor over night - she waited until morning so I could watch her take a running leap with a twist to rearrange my blocks. The doll bed was purchased with Squeaky in mind - it needed to be sturdy and low to the ground for my fat Dolly.

Midgie
9/14/99 - 9/22/15

One year my brother's family was going to Disney for a couple of weeks and asked if I could take their cat while they were gone. They came home from Florida but never asked for their cat and I never offered her back - it took forever for the boys to even notice she was gone. I eventually changed her name to Midgie - what else do you call a tiny 6 pound cat? Midgie also had to be every where I was and could talk a blue streak. It would get a little crowded on the couch with Squeaky and Midgie both vying for lap space. Luckily Pepper was more of a floor kind of guy.

Zorro
Gotcha Day: September 2013

Zorro took his time before adopting me. He was a stray in the neighborhood for an entire summer. He became friendlier and would sit in my lap. As winter approached I decided to bring him inside, except he did not want to be inside only as my other cats were. It was a long battle but we soon worked out a truce that he would be an innie-outie kitty and we trained each other so that he rings a bell when he wants out. He's quite smart - too smart if we are being honest. Over the last 5 years he has become increasingly friendlier, even enjoying sitting on my lap every day for the last few weeks. He seems to be happiest as an only child.

Little Boy Bleu
2010? - 3/18/17
Gotcha Day: September 2016

Little Boy Bleu was another stray in the neighborhood. He was very shy and it took an entire summer before I even got a good look at his beautiful face as he was always slinking away along the property lines. We finally decided he was a Mitted Seal Point Ragdoll! A gorgeous boy who sadly only lived with me for a few months. He was another grateful kitty who loved to be in my lap and wasn't bothered by whatever hexie project I was working on over the top of him.

Have you picked up that all my cats have found me? Picked me?
And for that I am forever thankful!

The end of Summer...

There are 5 things in my universe that signify the end of summer...

The Fair finished (1) on Saturday. Friday was our third annual hexie demo outside the Home Arts Department and just in front of the booth for the LQS. We had 9 members present, including 3 members who just joined a couple weeks ago!! We had lots of lookers and at least 2 new people stopped long enough for a little lesson and free starter kit thanks to paperpieces.com.

Yes - Zorro helps me hold the boxes in place every year. He's so thoughtful and helpful!
Can you find the photo bomber?

School taxes (2) arrived - now I need to pull out escrowed bills for the banks and combine bills into single envelopes for people who own more than one property by the end of this week. I took on the tax collector job several years ago to *help* pay my own property taxes but it really does cut into my hexie and walking time for the next 2+ months. I think I've figured out a way to get my walks in but I'm still working on finding hexie time. On the upside, I can buy hot school lunches for just $2. It beats bringing a sandwich from home...

This is the LAST rosette to need the inner sashing!!!!

Once taxes arrive that generally means it's my last summer Friday off (3) which is followed closely by Labor Day (4). There wasn't even time for one more camping trip (5) this year. Boooooooo.....

Did you link to the Small Town America post yet?? The linky party closes on 8/31/15.

Feline Friday - 7/31/15

Look!!! Momma finally finished her denim hexie pillow!! Ain't it purrrrrrty on the faded black denim?

The hexies are from a birthday exchange at her hexie club 2 years ago. She's already started working on a project for the B&W chyrsanthemum pieces she will recieve this January but doesn't know what she'll do with the batik diamonds from last year yet.

Zorro also decided that he likes it...

...after rigorous testing of course!

Feline Friday - 7/17/15 - HeLP for Hexie-aholics

Yes - you read that right, it's one of the few times each year that two of my favorite linky parties happen on the same day!

On the Fourth of July I went to Angelica, NY for their annual Lavender Festival. It's an expanded farmers' market with veggies, flowers, food and arts/crafts. Basically, anything to deal with, or be converted to deal with, lavender. It was my first visit to Angelica or the Fest and I plan to go again next year!

The highlight of the day was actually browsing the cute little antique/vintage shops.

For years I've been looking for an antique doll bed to use as a cat bed. It had to be low to the ground and sturdy enough to hold a certain sturdy cat, altho Squeaky's name shall be withheld, but I also wanted character. Well I found it for a steal of just $12!!!! Ok, so it' needs a good sanding and re-painting but look how cute.

I knew immediately that it would need a doll/cat quilt and I just happened to have a few UFOs to choose from! I've decided to finish this RWB diamond by adding WOW hexies to make it into a rectangle. I might add another flower hexie to each corner...or I might not. I am also seriously considering a diagonal RWB strip binding. I have an appropriate fabric but it's not a 100% match on the dark blue so I'm still thinking.

In the meantime, I grabbed an old bed pillow (so this is why there are several in the closet?!) and a cupcake pillowcase and gave the felines a little lesson in sleeping in their own bed.

Squeaky is in love with the bed and spends hours there.

Zorro needs a further lesson in head versus foot boards.

Midgie prefers to sit in a tiny corner of her little box. Too each their own...

Since we are having "two" linky parties today, feel free to link up separate posts with your favorite felines and or your favorite EPP project. Bonus points to any links with felines and hexies!!

Have a fantastic weekend!!

Feline Friday - 6/26/15

I don't see it yet Momma...
When does the Ark arrive for the floods the weatherman is predicting for this weekend?

Can I have some galoshes so my tiny tootsies don't get wet?

Are we gonna stick to that whole two by two thing? I mean there are 3 of us pussy cats so who do we leave behind? Zorro??!!

Feline Friday - 6/19/15 - Midgie's Big Adventure

Momma let me sit on her half-nekked fireman quilt!!
Sunday was a very rainy day - there were even more floods in the town where Momma works and her LQS is. I cried and howled most of the day cuz I wanted to go outside, something I very rarely want to do cuz there are a lot of scary things outside, including my brother, Zorro.

Momma took me out on the porch a couple times but not for very long cuz it was cold and wet. Finally just before bed Momma was gonna take me out one last time. I saw my chance and bolted out into the dark. Momma said a naughty word and went in search of her flashlight and raincoat.

She spent an hour walking in the dark looking for me in the flower gardens, at the neighbors houses and at the village park behind our house. Surprisingly enough, Zorro followed Momma the whole she was searching for me, puddles and everything! Eventually Momma had to get to bed but she changed the bulb in the ugly fixture so she could leave the porch light on and put out some nice dry towels just in case I decided to come home. Momma wasn't sure I would cuz I am an old and wise girl and she worries that old kitties like to run off to the rainbow bridge.

Luckily when Momma got up early to come look for me again I had already decided to come home! I was on the towels on Zorro's table and he was also on the porch to protect me from that mean neighborhood kitty. Maybe Z really does like me?!?!

Momma cried a lot while she dried me off. I still wanna go back outside but Momma won't let me. I'm not sure why cuz I had a grand time!!

Feline Friday - 5/8/15

Hey y'all - Midgie here!!!

Momma thinks this next picture reminds her of the Brady Brunch with everyone in the family in their own "square." Some are paying better attention to the iPhone than others.

I like to think of it as the 3 minutes of torture when Momma plopped me so close to the Introoder just for the sake of a funny picture.

The things we do to entertain Momma.

Feline Friday - 5/1/15 - Cold!!

Were you really cold last Sunday around 2pm NY time?
Well, Momma thought you deserved to know why...

I weigh all of 5.75 pounds!

On Saturday my little sissy had to go to the V. E. T. in her P. T. U. and I thought she deserved a little snuggle on Sunday before Momma left for her conference.

It's not my fault Hell froze over in the process!! Geesh...

PS - Midgie has antibiotics, flea meds, a heart murmur and maybe hyperthroidism. She's also upgraded to a completely moist food diet due to teeth issues. It's hard getting old...

PPS - There was no fighting or hissing for more than 30 minutes while Midgie (normally terrified of Zorro) allowed him to sleep next to her! Miracles do happen!

PPPS - GrandMomma tattled that Z was mean to M on Monday. S came to M's aid but GM kicked Z out of the house for the day. Miracles can be short lived :(

Feline Friday - It's a good day!

Hey Momma! Didja know today is Good Friday?

Well, ok, so any day that Zorro The Terrible stays outside in the nice weather is a good day.

Now I can climb the kitty tree without worrying he is gonna jump over me to get to the crow's nest. Can you imagine?

Oh, and there is tuna water again today too.. .

It's a GOOD day =^..^=

Feline Friday - 3/13/15

Momma? Momma!

I'm not really sure it was the best idea for you, grandMomma and Uncle Tommy to get drive-thru foods the last two nights; even though it was two vvvvveeeeeerrrrrryyyyy long days at the CTICU after grandPoppa's open heart surgeries.

Rochester General Hospital

I think we need to have a good snuggle and discuss.

Feline Friday - Gifts

Clearly, the collecting of the taxes and the frigid weather has delayed this uber important post...it's about what Momma got us for Christmas!!!!

Momma got me a paper bag!! It's good for insulation, dark and cozy for napping but hard to see when the Introoder is sneaking up on me.

Momma got me a box!! It's nice and roomy for my tiny figure but I never sleep in my box cuz you never know who is gonna try to get in the box with me...

Yes, Momma has a Cardinal on the top of her bird tree!

Momma. Got. Me. A. Christmas. Tree!!!! Oh. My. God. Christmas. Trees. Are. The Best. Gift. Ever!!!!

I like to swat at the ornaments and swat at the branches and chew the cords for the lights and stand under the tree to see how high I can reach and scratch at the trunk and run across the floor so I can then slide into the carpet square under the tree stand causing the tree to spin and Momma to freak!! She's not at all impressed that I also figured out how to lift the heat vent that lives under MY tree out of the floor. Hello? My sissies have lived here for years and haven't figured that out yet...

Momma said she is gonna take my tree away this weekend - something about she can't take my cabin fever much longer. There has been a lot of mumbling (something along the lines of nonononono) and squirting me with water. Should I be worried about Momma?? We don't even live in a cabin!

Mystery Monday Link Up!

Thankfully last Friday's clue #5 was a super simple one - other than 45 minutes of hexies it was a go-go-go weekend. I was lucky to finish what I did and that was because I stopped working on town taxes long enough for the first hour of Quilt Cam. It was nice to take that break amongst the chaos.

Yipper - my little Quality Control Officer was checking my work and blocking my light =^..^=

Did you ever think your food is laughing at you??
Well, today, I finally caught it on "film". LOL

Me thinks he looks a little worried now that he's on "film" !

Have a great week!!
