Feline Friday - 3/27/20

Given that Momma's office door is locked during NYS on Pause, she can sometimes work from home while her deputy is in the office to do some work and answer the phone.

On Monday, I spent the first hour watching her work on the dining room table. I've wondered for a long time what that table was for as she generally drops her work bag there when she gets home and then eats on the coffee table.

I was exhausted from so much snoopervising so I had to take a quick nap or three.

Eventually Momma set up her "standing desk" to check emails.

I'm pretty sure it's still the ironing board but I snoopervised anyway.

Yes! That is a stink eye!

This level of snoopervision is exhausting and I'm not sure how many more work from home days I can sustain this...I might need my own deputy...

Luckily we took an exercise break in the afternoon to play.
I'm hoping we take more breaks next time Momma works from home!!!

Feline Friday - 9/1/17

Now that the weather is turning yellow and green, I've been spending more time inside with Momma, especially at night. I've snuggled with her every night this week - not just by her feet like when the Bleu monster lived here but in her arms and even next to her head last night. How come I've never slept at the head of the bed before?

Aren't my furs nice?
Just ignore the random grey hairs - must be from taking care of Momma

I also assisted Momma with taxes this week. She works very hard so sometimes she needs to be reminded to take a break now and then. Sometimes I have to get **real** close to make her take a break.

Sometimes I just sit nearby.

In return, Momma builds me a fort.

Life is good at Casa Grande!

Feline Friday - 8/26/16

Hi Momma -
I always know it's tax collecting season when you cover MY table with all these boxes.

The coke bottle is Momma's stapler!!

I'll try not to knock the boxes on the floor and get the bills out of order.

I wuv you, Momma!

It was nice of you to order us chicken finger pizza last night!
I'll keep it warm for you!

In reality, Momma told me to get my nose out of the box...so I sat on it instead!

Hump Day/Slump Day

I was texting with Denise this morning about being in a post-holiday-rush slump. I've been lucky enough to not have any meetings after work, allowing me to head home, change into my sweats, reheat homemade pad thai for dinner and then hex while watching NCIS and a bunch of movies. I've made a little progress on a bunch of projects but totally neglected to take any photos to share.  I offered bonus cat photos but Denise had an awesome idea to share a "day in the life" photo. Fun!!

Yes - he completely ignored the cat bed to sit on an accordion folder.
At least he didn't sit on the boxes of bills I was working on like last year...

I'll start with what I spent my weekend on - Taxes!!! Yip, I spent the weekend pulling escrows and sealing and stamping bills. I did have some supervision but he was soon on to bigger and better things...

...known locally as a box!! LOL

And here's my messy work desk! I've heard that a messy desk is the sign of a brilliant mind so I must be out of this world brilliant. We had back to back meetings yesterday, including a conference call, so everything got moved to the side to share the desk/computer.

Denise said she noticed several glimpses of my personality on the desk:

  • the hexies I brought to work on during lunch
  • my purple (fav color!!) water bottle and coat.

Other "me" things found on the desk that aren't quite visible would be:

  •  the 4H mug that holds paperclips - I was in 4H for 10 years
  • the Cape Florida Lighthouse mug that holds pens - I gave tours for 10 years
  • the SanFran cable car holder for my sticky notepads - I was in SanFran many moons ago for another job and this came with chocolates in it
  • the batik itty bitty twister mug rug under my water bottle
  • the ceramic cat tape dispenser from an old co-worker
  • on the front counter is a Christmas cactus (which thinks it's a halloween/january/easter cactus) in one of my antique crocks.
I guess I've always thought that I didn't bring much of me to my office - no photos on the bulletin board and such but I've surprised myself to see a lot of me at my messy desk :) Who Knew?! Thanks Denise!

Not quite Wordless Wednesday

My Boss got me these beautiful hyacinth for Administrative Assistant Week!

We won't talk about the gifts that Zorro has been bringing me...

Not Quite Wordless Wednesday

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!! Ok, so that was 2 months ago but the snow today is beautiful if bountiful...much better than we actually had on Christmas. The front sidewalk has been shoveled 3 times in 3 hours and needs it again. At least I don't mind shoveling :)

My office was built as a bank in 1909.
The vaulted ceilings (prob 20 feet high) are beautiful but hidden above dropped ceilings to aid in heating the town hall.
We still enjoy the marble walls and hexie tiles in the ladies bathroom :)

Not Quite Wordless Wednesday

Mother nature is confused again...

Yesterdays high was 32F and it was raining buckets. Last night it was freezing in rivulets on my car and this morning my back yard is flooded again even tho the Village claimed the tiling done in the park behind my house would eliminate that problem.

This morning we are already at 34F but it's snowing flakes the size of a small dog.

I have no idea if this poor confused Delphinium will get to blossom again or not.

But don't worry Friday and Saturday will be in the 60s again.
If you don't like the weather in WNY - wait 5 minutes.  :)

Design Wall Monday - 8/29/11

Nothing new on my design wall. As you may remember from last week, I was pretty lazy and got nothing done. This weekend I started working on school taxes (my second job) so nothing sewing related was accomplished then either.

Hurricane Irene was pretty much a nothing for us altho I just found out my brother, who works for RG&E, has been shipped out for at least a week to repair power issues from the Storm. I'm not even sure if he's still in NY or another state.

The highlight of the week was...

"my parents went camping in the Adirondacks and all I got was a rock and some fabric"

LOL - the big rock is for my garden beds (sorry, no photo until it's delivered to my house) and the fabric was for watering mom's plants. Aren't they pretty flowers (see a theme??!!) and stripes? And of course, there must be neutrals!!

Design Wall Monday - 12/27/10

So, it's the last 2010 DWM and I don't have any real progress to report.

Based on my own observation last week, that John confirmed, I am changing the firemen a little. The fireman fabric now blends in so well with the RWB blocks that it fades into the background. I am in the process of frogging off the top and bottom block sections so I can add a narrow black border. Hopefully it will be worth it.

The 8 foot table (left over from a Christmas party) that I had been using as a design wall for the firemen quilt has now been repurposed as tax central. As Town Clerk I also collect the Town & County taxes, starting in January. I spend the week between Christmas and New Year's pulling escrows, sealing and adding postage to those 7 boxes of bills covering half the table. The other half is pressies I haven't put away yet - the blocks are still on the table tho! It's not a hard job to do escrows but it does take time. As a bonus, I usually get through at least one audiobook while I do this. I tried watching movies but I spend more time watching than working.

Do you see what I see?

<-- Yup, snow!

Maybe it’s time to turn on the heat.

I mean, it was pretty cold
in the house this morning*** -->

<-- Pepper is trying to get as high as possible on the couch (heat rises, you know?)

Smokey knows the best place to stay warm -->

So…Where have I been?
1. I took on job#2 as school tax collector and it feels like I am never home with job#1, volunteer work and guilds, etc.
2. Instead of taking a lunch at job#1 (when I usually posted) I run to the school to do work and then back again after work
3. The church bazaar is in 14 days so I have been busy working finishing up projects and getting ready for that
4. I just haven’t taken any pictures because the camera card is full (refer to #1, the above are from my cell phone)
5. There's more that I won't bore you with
6. School taxes should be done in 2 or 3 weeks so I am looking forward to getting back to “normal”!!!! Of course, Town taxes start in just 8 weeks :)

*** The first digit doesn’t always work; it was cold but not that cold!

Not much quilting going on here...the middle two weeks of every month are my busy weeks with 5 to 6 evening meetings for work or volunteer organizations. I'm also preparing to go to a conference soon and then Mom's birthday brunch at my house days after I get back from the conference. Yardwork is calling but I'm not listening...

Last weekend was Val's birthday so Jim and I felt the need to celebrate responsibly! Ignore my funny facial expression - I must have been talking. And these are the new neighbors...with momma watching over them closely. They are still a little wobbly but their coloring, fuzziness and blue eyes are very endearing and a welcome cuddle during lunch break never fails to warm my heart.
