Ready for part 2 of my trip to the Amherst Quilt Show??

Amherst Quilt Show - part 1

As some of you will recall, my recent FARTs began with going to a not-so-local quilt show. I went because I thought they would have pretty quilts, some new-to-me vendors (they did!) but also as a test run for when Bonnie Hunter comes to teach classes in the fall (which is a mere 147 days, 20 hours, 51 minutes and 3 seconds away). The trip thru the city of Buffalo, made me second guess wanting to take a weekday class that started during rush hour, but I still think I am going to try to take 2 of her classes.

The quilt show was hosted by the Amherst Quilters' Guild and held at the Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village. I didn't realize until after I left the compound w/out getting my hand stamped that we could walk the village. Maybe this fall...

The main quilt display is hung in a central room and they are hung from the ceiling which I thought was a wonderful look. I do think some of the "aisles" were a bit narrow for the crowds and a bit dark for photos but given the choice, I think this might be my fav way to hang a show.

This was the best of show quilt. It was just gorgeous but you can see below just how tiny the pieces were.

There was just one hexie quilt...

But there were several bird quilts.

This was actually a mini and hand quilted with 3D flowers

This bird was a woven background. I've used this technique before but never with the curved "seams."

The guild had held a contest for "no touch" signs. I'm hoping you can enlarge this and read them:

You're right, I'm likely never to do this kind of applique but I did enjoy the quilting itself. I think this was the only picture I took of quilting at the show. It's funny how some shows you photo the quilts and others you photo the quilting.

I loved the texture of the next quilt. I need to use this technique for something and soon. Maybe for a zippered bag?

Genesee Valley Quilt Show - Part #3

Here's my final selections from last weekend's quilt show...

This quilt was the result of a swap the quilter participated in. Wish I had been in the swap!

They are feathered stars - what else is there to say? Only that I really liked how the star tips met.

Such pretty baskets. I liked the 2 backgrounds used and the flowers in the corners.

Tomorrow is Feline Friday and then I'm back on blog break until 6/19 or so. Surgery is re-scheduled for Monday, 6/10 so we'll see if it happens this time.  Don't worry tho...by hook or by crook, HeLP is still on for 6/17!!

Genesee Valley Quilt Show - Part #2

Today's photos features "pairs." Enjoy!

The first 2 quilts are from a Ricky Tims kaleidoscope pattern that I am determined to try. I've watched a quick video online (I hope I can find it again) but I also know you can buy the DVD or book too. The fabrics were fab in both quilts.

This Hawaiian quilt was huge - I dream of making one for my own bed but don't know that I could do that much applique w/out seriously aggravating my carpel tunnel/tendinitis/thoracic outlet syndrome :^( As a general rule I don't do much handwork, hexies being the only exception and, yes, some days I pay for it.

Mom and Dad went to Hawaii last summer and brought me back several patterns and books I hope to use some day. I thought the unusual fabric colors in this sampler were actually quite stunning, not the batiks and brights we expect in Hawaiian quilts...

There were good half dozen of the next pattern - each with a different color scheme. I think I read that they came  from a class offered locally.

I think this was my favorite of the grouping with the bold quilting patterns and the yellow/gray opposites in the borders and diamonds. At most quilt shows I take lots of photos of stunning quilting designs. Not so this time, there were a few novelty type designs but also lots of meandering, which I am no good at.

Genesee Valley Quilt Show - Part #1

This past weekend I attended the Genesee Valley Quilt Show, held at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The show had 600+ quilts and 50+ vendors, including some that I've seen at Houston or on Youtube! I spent a few bucks with the venders and took a few pictures :) I was a little surprised with the lack of hexie quilts...

Cat quilts are first!


Gorgeous thread painting!



The card said the women was terrified to tear the fabric, giving the quilt it's name,
but she made several of them for local nursing homes as a converstaion starter.



I think I'll need to add this to my bucket list!



Ok, not a great photo but the red is all Japanese fabrics with cats!
There was a vendor with Asian fabrics but nothing like this one :(



The color and detail was stunning in this applique



I LOVE this color combination!



Look familiar? It's amazing how big a difference fabric choices make.



Thursday Mish Mash

Just a few random photos I wrassled up for y'all...

This is the doll quilt I bought at the quilt show and it was only $5! Can you find the "mistake"?

On the left is my door prize - a block of the month pattern ... I was thinking it might make a good blog giveaway someday...

On the right is the pattern I bought since I can't attend the class. I've just been using an old gold sheet or fabric for a tree skirt but I think this will be much classier.

This is the pear tree in my yard...for the longest time it was just green and then I noticed this morning that it's now very colorful. Unfortunately the sky wasn't cooperating early today but now that it's 79F out (!) the sky is a gorgeous cloudless blue. It also smells like chocolate outside - it must be chocolate chip cookie day at the local cookie factory. Heaven in Perry :)

Batavia Quilt Show

This weekend I went to the quiltshow of one of the local guilds. There were lots of nice quilts but I'll just share my fave five! I even won a doorprize, which I will share at another time cuz I forgot to photograph it this morning.

And then we went thru the vendor area. I only bought one pattern and a doll quilt in the boutique, which I again forgot to photograph thanks to my migraine this morning but it was very cute. The whole day only cost me $20!

Unfortunately as I was perusing the booth of a LQS I discovered something very unsettling. I was looking over their hexie wares and what did I discover but a kit to make one of MY quilts. In the kit were all the fabrics to make the top - they are different fabrics but in the same colors. There was even a picture of my quilt. This is the store that asked to borrow three of my hexie quilts to display in their booth at a prominent local quilt show and then asked me to teach a class on a fourth project.

There was never any mention that they would sell kits that would include pictures of my quilt. They didn't ask my permission nor did they ask the source of the pattern - it's not my pattern but comes from The Civil War Sewing Circle by Kathleen Tracy - and I don't recall that either is documented in the kits.

I am honored that they wanted to copy my quilt but my question for everyone is if I somehow implied permission for this store to create kits by lending them my quilt or should they have asked me?

I am calmer now and ready to write an email to the store but I am not sure what I should say to them. Help!
