Wednesday Weather Report #202 - 3/31/21

We are still approaching Spring with all the temperature swings.

We are now waiting on tomorrow's April Fools Joke. Can you guess what it is?

March 24 - 30, 2021
61 - 70 - 47 - 41 - 63 - 37 - 62 F

Feline Friday - 3/26/21

Hey Momma - I can wear my new camouflage suit in the house, right?

I made sure to really roll around in the leaves to grind little bits in to my long furs. The bigger leaves are what they call icing on the cake =^..^=

Wednesday Weather Report #201 - 3/24/21

According to the NYS DOT we are not going to be getting any more snow this spring.

I hear you - how can they possibly know? I have no idea myself but they took down all the snow fencing this week so it must be so. I hope Mother Nature got the same message since it's only March and we have gotten plenty of spring snow storms in both April and May.

March 17 - 23, 2021
50 - 36 - 29 - 50 - 60 - 63 - 62 F

The rumor mill says we might hit 73F tomorrow! Do I dare wear my new short sleeve shirt?

Last week's theme for #100hexies100days2021 Instagram challenge was Rainbows. Not having fabrics with actual rainbows, each day I posted a colored hexie with matching colored tchotchkes in the background. Check them out at @sarahdidit17.

Ok. I know this next picture is awful, but have you ever gotten a new toy and just played with it to see what it can do?

My house can have awful lighting when there is no sunshine. I found this mini ring light (rechargeable, clips on to your phone and it was only ~$5 at Walmart) and I was playing and trying stupid stuff like putting the hexie on the light. This is actually the lowest of 3 light settings - it's much brighter than I expected. It totally washed out the colors of the hexie and the purple ironing board cover but can you see the piece of lint formed in to a heart there on the right? I had no idea that little heart was there...

Ok, you can stop laughing now.

Feline Friday - 3/19/21

Did you know that it's pretty easy to teach an old cat lady new tricks??!!

If I can do it, then you can do it too!

Apparently, Momma has been watching Instagram videos of cats and dogs using  recordable buttons to "talk" or tell their Momma's what they want. For instance, what toy to play with or the need for food/water or that they need to go outside.

In the past, when I wanted to go outside, I rang the bell that lives by the door. I recently started ringing the bell to get more treats. Momma is already off the couch so it's not a bother for her to divert to the treat drawer in the quilt lab instead.

Now when I ring the bell, Momma pushes the green button, which says "outside" and she opens the door. If I want a treat she pushes the orange button which says "treats".

My Momma is sooooo smart!! =^..^=

I wonder what other buttons I can teach her to press??

Wednesday Weather Report #200 - 3/17/21

Woot! Woot! Did you see that?!? We just hit Weather Report #200!!!
That's 3.83 years or 46 months or 1,400 days!
For a girl with no follow-thru skills to speak of, this is a massive accomplishment.

March 10 - 16, 2021
64 - 67 - 50 - 36 - 35 - 26 - 36 F

I think spring is just around the corner, given our temps, the snow storms out west and tornadic activity in the south.

Last week's theme for #100hexies100days2021 theme was Treasures.

1. Pirate treasure
2. wooden spoon collection
3. Cape Florida Lighthoue
4. Canning jar collection
5. Zorro
6. Quilty friends
7. Irish treasure

Don't forget to check the individual photo captions on my instapage @sarahdidit17

Feline Friday - 3/12/21

Uncle Tommy has taken up making maple syrup!!

He's tapped trees at his house, GrandPoppa's house and 2 trees at my house for a total of 10 taps.

Every morning and evening Momma and I trek out to our trees to see how much sap there is. It's a easier trek now that the snow has melted. Then Momma tells Uncle Tommy how much there is and Auntie Kristie picks it up after work.

Uncle Tommy boils sap (up to 10 gallons a day) from when he gets home from work until he goes to bed. We've seen pictures of the maple syrup but I haven't gotten a taste yet. Momma says the sap wasn't that sweet so I don't know why everyone is so excited about the syrup...it's certainly a lot of work!

Wednesday Weather Report #199 - 3/10/21

Hello all - busy date/late post so it'll be quick...

The weather has bounced around temperature wise = spring is coming!

The sap is running  = spring is coming!

We hit a high of 65F today = spring is coming!

March 3 - 9, 2021
40 - 26- 26 - 25 - 28 - 41 - 48 F

Are you sensing a theme??!!

Well, of course we could get one more late season snowstorm - but even that usually means spring is coming! LOL!

Monday Catchall - 3/8/21

I thought I would share a couple of the projects I've been working on recently...

For my birthday gift to myself, I joined the Smitten BOM with Pink Door Fabrics. Each month for a year we get enough Tula fabric to fussy cut 3 or 4 of these large hexagons. I didn't bring the size with me but I'm going to guess the final quilt will be couch size. I have less than half to go on the fourth hexagon for Month 1. Month 2 should ship this week.  Other goodies in the BOM include a project bag, an acrylic Smitten key chain and monthly glue pen refills. I skipped the monthly Aurifil thread add-on as I don't color match my threads. The BOM also has a great Facebook page with video tutorials. I highly recommend Pink Door for BOMs.

I joined #100days100hexies2021 challenge on Instagram where I am @sarahdidit17. Each week has a theme, usually pretty open to interpretation, which is good 'cuz I don't have a lot of small things to fussy cut for the 1" hexies I chose to use as I can use them for my ZiggZagg project.

The first week was Sewers Choice and I chose fabrics to tell a little about myself. Each daily hexie was photographed on a relevant background so I hope you'll pop over to IG to see the original photos.

  1. My obsession: hexies
  2. Zorro!!
  3. I'm Irish
  4. I'm an EMT
  5. Chocolate
  6. I'm a homebody
  7. I live in Western NY

This week's theme is treasures. I've got a few ideas but not enough for the week. I was able to fussy cut about half of what I'll need for the entire challenge so now I can spend some extra time finding the harder themes...

Feline Friday - 3/5/21

When it's too cold outside and I'm tired of being naughty, I like to survey my domain from GreatGrandMomma's card table.

I guess I'm still being naughty as I shouldn't be on GGM's table but Momma cleared off the end of the table so that means I *can* sit here, right? How else can I spy on the neighbors out the window?

Momma doesn't want me to brag but I thought I would give you a little tour of some of her stuff in my domain:

  • Conch shell on GGM's table is from St Martin in the Caribbean
  • In case you don't know what a game table is, the top opens up and rotates for a larger surface. Inside there is storage space for decks of  cards, etc. There are still games and papers in the table from GGM!
  • On the wall are 2 framed cat quotes, a terracotta sun GrandMomma got in Arizona and some creepy wood spirit with actual Moose hair that Momma got in the Adirondacks
  • The ratty couch arm is all my doing. I like to think I'm an ar-tiste!
  • Momma got the green lanterns hanging in the windows in Cairo, Egypt
  • Rocking chair was Momma's childhood chair. The other chair came from an op shop. I like to sit on them both, I'm just not very good at rocking.
  • 3 legged step stool came from a family friend - 3 legged stools are ridiculous.
  • Copper bucket full (!) of my favorite bells/balls is from the same family friend.
  • The plants are mostly violets along with a turtle plant and a pilea. The table was put out for the dumpster by a neighbor when Momma lived in Miami.
  • And most important - there is a floor vent to heat my belly furs!

Do you like domain tours? Momma has more stuff I can show you...

Wednesday Weather Report #198 - 3/3/21

Ummmm.... How did it get to be March already?

We started the weather week with a lovely warm day last Wednesday. I thoroughly enjoyed walking to the bank without my puffer coat on! It was a 1 day gift as the temps have since been varying a little more and everything feels cold. In fact, it's currently 40F but I'm considering a warm mug of cocoa as I have a chill. Maybe the chill is knowing it's going to drop 15 degrees in the next couple of hours and start snowing again?

February 24 - 28, 2021 :: 51 - 32 - 36 - 44 - 43 F
March 1-2, 2021 :: 32 - 24 F

Weather nerd alert:
Average February temp for 2018 to 2021: 36.7, 30.4, 31.7, 27.8F
Minimum 10F in 2019 and maximum 70F in 2018

And while I know that I've been awful in sharing any other project, I just wanted to share proof that I do have other projects going. I'll share more info another day if y'all are interested.

A fun tessellating pattern I saw online.
Best part is it uses papers I already had and a scrap pack of grunge that just arrived
from an awesome Etsy where I've been spending too much money lately.

Janet - sit down!
It's a machine project but can you tell how small the blocks are?
Great scrappy project but it's certainly not going to finish scraps at any great pace.

The Bibliophile Files - 3/2/21

I'm still just ahead of schedule for my annual reading goal!

FINISHED
     The Affair
     A Time to Kill
     Two Can Keep a Secret
     The 20th Victim
     The Night Fire
     The Alibi

IN PROGRESS
     Me Talk Pretty One Day

Sadly, while I enjoyed each book as I was reading it I can't seem to come up with anything good or bad to say about them today. What does that say about me? That I have an awful memory or that they just weren't outstanding/awful books? Probably some of both!

And now it's your turn! What have you read recently?
Anything counts: novel, magazine, quilt pattern or cereal box!
