Another disappearing block

Oh look, it's another disappearing block project!! This time it's a disappearing 9-patch.

The pattern obviously uses 4 fabrics but it was pure co-inky-dink that I paired them such that the blue and green recede to the background. Oh I know it's because they are cool colors but I wasn't paying attention to the "science" and just paired them when it came time to make the original 9-patches.

Not sure how big this will end up - the blue and purple fabrics were re-purposed from a kit I was never going to use (in other words, I only had so much yardage to start with) and I picked out the pink and green at a LQS. The clerk thought my colors were pretty bright. She may have recognized me by name (to my surprise) but she obviously doesn't know that I live for bright colors!! LOL. Design Wall Monday - 3/3/14

After SEVERAL discussions on wrinkles, the newest QCO finally got the hang of properly holding a quilt in place without wrinkling it. That allowed me to finish the sashing...

...and then the borders on this Disappearing 9 Patch class sample.

The purple border looks like a strip in this photo - hadn't noticed in person. Cool!

As an option to the sample, I'll be making hexies to place at the intersections with the large purple squares. Obviously I won't be using the fabrics below but I already had this rosette done for another project and it worked for the photo. It also showed me that the hexies will need to be really light or dark to contrast with the purple fabric.

The back 3 fabrics below are scraps from the quilt and the front 2 FQs are new fabrics I thought could work for the hexies. Now I'm not so sure there is enough contrast in the dark purples. I intend to piece the hexies so maybe I can still use these fabrics but add in more lights or maybe even some black somewhere.

Tonight I have to do the housework I successfully avoided all weekend...ughhh...

I hadn't noticed until I was typing this that the first two were quite similar. Oops...

I really liked the border on this next quilt - what a great way to jazz up a simple Disappearing 9-Patch!

Design Wall Monday - 1/31/11

Sorry - gonna have to be a quick one today...too much work to do.

The class I was helping with at the LQS this weekend was a Disappearing 9-patch which gave me the push to finish this D9P top that was started back in August using Sew Tweet fabrics. I just need to pick fabric for the back. I must have something at home I can hobble together since it's couch sized.

Cali, today's Quality Control Officer, could have told me she wanted the blocks arranged differently BEFORE I had it together...

I started working on a class sample using "Blendable Curves" in blue, gold and purple. Will post more later this week along with a link to the book we are using.

I also finished my UFO for January but will post about it later...
