HeLP for Hexie-aholics, DWM and Mystery Monday

Hello all and welcome to today's trifecta of linky parties!!

Let's begin with the easy one ... Mystery Monday Link-up #4.

As you will recall ... I'm making a smaller quilt so I've cut enough neutral "tri's" to make 42 tri-recs. I'll need to cut some more purple "recs" but that's ok cuz I spent an hour or so trimming scraps and found some nice dark purples in the pile that I can use right away.

And since that was the boringest photo ever, how about a little entertainment?

Attack!!!!!

This was taken shortly after Cookie Day baking finished, while Bleu was still hiding under the bed. And you're right, there are no ornaments on the bottom 2 feet of the tree for a reason...

The rest of the week/end was spent working on the owl quilt, which I am thrilled to say now has the penultimate row of the neutral batik attached to the top and bottom!! Woo Hoo!!!

Next up was deciding how to fill in the top and bottom notches so the neutral was "straight" before adding the blue border.

Given how little neutral was left I thought it would be easier to sew a strip of blue and neutral together in a pieced hexie fashion instead of making 2 half hexies to sew together later. I also added a strip of blue to the other side so I could get the most use of the neutral. I needed 22 of these split hexies which left a very small, goofy shaped piece of neutral. You can thank me later for forgetting to take a picture of that small piece of fabric.

You can see how the split hexies fill in to give some separation between the rose stars and the blue border. Phew! My idea worked!

You can also see how someone learned how to rearrange quilt blocks. Given that I had to encourage him to even sit on the quilt the last time I had it on the floor, he certainly has upped his QCO skills pretty quickly.

Sew... I've linked to Design Wall Monday and Mystery Monday but now I want all my hexie friends to join my Hexie Linky Party (HeLP).

Any paper shape and any vintage project is more than welcome. We look forward to seeing your hexie projects!!!

Design Wall Monday & Celtic Solstice

This past weekend was Cookie Day at my house Saturday. No pictures but Mom and I spent 10 hours baking and glazing 11 batches of cookies. Sunday was Candy Day at my SIL's house where we made about 20 kinds of candy. I was only there 7 hours and Mom 5 hours, but Kristie put in 12 and she still has more candy to make...

Truffles and brittle and sponge candy and jellies and caramels and choco covered peanuts.
Oh My!!!
Saturday I shoveled probably 5" so Mom could get in the driveway. Sunday I didn't bother to shovel since I was walking to my brother's house but then he offered to take his snowblower over to my house. Neither day did I bother to clean off my car. And that was why I had to clean 10" off it this morning!

All this to say I didn't get much sewing done this weekend (not even a single hexie!) cuz I never want to see another cookie or piece of choco and had to clear the car and another 6" from the drive again this morning!! (Don't believe me - I had a ginger krinkle for breakfast!) Please don't think I'm complaining - it's great exercise and it's still the fluffy snow that I like to shovel. I can also wave to the neighbors as they do their drives or cross country ski up the street. It was a brisk 18F (or -10C!) but I can still break a sweat. :^)

I just need to finish ironing that pile to complete Step #1.
This week should be a little slower and I can work on Steps 2 and 3.

Current total in my yard is 14" altho I am not sure how accurate this is since the wind has been blowing and the sun was actually out for a few minutes. It is supposed to continue snowing all week until Friday when it will be 43F and raining. Double Yuck! since it's my annual road trip to the city for Xmas shopping and a non-LQS.

Instead of "Where's Waldo" ...
Let's play "Where's Zorro"????

Feline Friday - 12/7/12

Last Sunday was Cookie Day with Mom. We made Candy Lassies, Sugar Cookies, Ginger Krinkles, Stained Glass Windows, Pineapple Cookies and something else that I can't remember. It was a long day!

We also had Squeaky to provide Moral Support! And yes, she had her little tongue sticking out!

Inquiring minds want to know ... what have all you other little kitties been up to this week?

Design Wall Monday - 12/12/11

Lest y'all think I fell off the face of the earth...I thought I should post something. It really isn't much because I was super busy this weekend. Saturday was cookie day with mom and yesterday I was working on more of those charm snowflakes and making flower yoyos for our guild party tomorrow.

It doesn't look like much as they are stacked but I hope the finished plant sticks will be pretty. They should be finished tonight so I'll try to get another photo.

On the health front the ear ache is basically gone and that's becasue it was really a precursor to Bell's Palsy.
Unfortunately, doctors don't really know what causes it or how to make it go away. I had this about 6 years ago and having had BP once makes you more suceptible to having it again - lucky me. Hopefully the heavy doses of more drugs will help and eventually it will go away partially or even completely.

Eating is difficult especially with no sense of taste (I found out that's a rare symptom today) so I've managed to lose another 3 pounds - yah me! The biggest problem for me is the eye strain it causes from not blinking or closing properly - by midafternoon my eye is whooped. And that means I may not be very productive in the quilt room for the rest of the year. I'll have to be very creative with finding something to blog about. Anything I can interest you in hearing about?

Design Wall Monday - 12/13/2010

I'm afraid I again have no quilty pictures. I did work on more fireman blocks Saturday and almost have twice as many completed. Friday when I was out Christmas Shopping I also stopped at another quilt store in the city that I don't get to very often for more RWB fabric. I hope to work on them this week and get more posted.

I have not worked a stitch on Bonnie's mystery quilt since I completed Step II. I may not be able to get to it until after Xmas or the New Year. I'm not sure at this point but I do need to finish Xmas presents and since I am Town tax collector, it's about time to start working on that...

Yesterday Mom came over for our third annual Cookie Day. We each make a double batch of cookies and then split them. I also make some other kinds since I give them as gifts. Mom's side of the family is working on a family cookbook and Mom is submitting Candy Lassies, a molasses cookie with crushed candy canes and candy cane glaze/frosting. Here's a close up of the yummieness...

This is most of what we made without some of the frosted sugar cookies. We split the candy lassies and sugar cookies. I also made ginger krinkles, chai tea cookies, chocolate gingerbread and coconut washboards. I hope to make a couple more new recipes for myself but we will see if "we" have time. Won't be making the chocoGingerbread from this recipe again tho.
