Look!!! Momma finally finished her denim hexie pillow!! Ain't it purrrrrrty on the faded black denim?

The hexies are from a birthday exchange at her hexie club 2 years ago. She's already started working on a project for the B&W chyrsanthemum pieces she will recieve this January but doesn't know what she'll do with the batik diamonds from last year yet.

Design Wall Monday - 6/22/15

I had another busy weekend. I know - you're not surprised. You won't be surprised, either, to hear that I scheduled my quilt classes for the rest of the year. Yikes! Not sure what I was thinking scheduling that many classes and work days. Luckily I teach a lot of the basic classes every semester, which don't need tons of prep.

Saturday morning I worked at a pancake breakfast at our local airport. Saturday afternoon I was at the LQS to schedule classes and drop off our latest paperpieces.com order. My favorite online store, you know! Someday I want to go see the Hexie House in Paducah.

Sunday morning was housework and trimming fabric bits for current projects, then time with Dad and a rescue call. Finally after dinner I got to work on some hexies. I've put Value Prop on hold until my July vacation so I can make progress on some other projects.

Our local hexie group has a Birthday Club. We use a different shape each year and each girl lists her color choice. When it's your birthday all the other girls gift you basted EPP shapes for you to make what ever you want. 2 years ago we used .75" hexagons, last year was 1.5" diamonds and this year it's 2" chrysanthemums.

I have been working on my hexagon birthday project very slowly for some time. Check this link for my ultimate goal. I started by laying out 4 rosettes so I could balance all the fabrics (I added a lot of my own purple hexies) and now I am finally putting them together into a long strip. I have one panel done and this panel will be done today. I'll attach the panels together and then see how many hexies are still left. They have been stored in this beautiful blue Ball jar for eons now. I'll figure out how to add more so all the hexies are used up.

I am teaching this denim flower pin at our local Arts Council on Wednesday. It would be prettier with more variety in the denim but this is what I had. Wish me luck...

Update from the resident hexie-aholic

Remember how I've waited a long time to make this pillow?

And by waiting, I mean waiting for my turn at Hexie Club to receive purple hexies from everyone for my birthday in January and then making/finding the time to make more purple hexies. I figured I needed at least (100) 3/4" purple hexies so when I finally crossed that line this week, I dumped them all in a basket and dug in.

I want the project to be scrappy and random but since I am also a little, teeny bit, anal, I am starting by making 4 of these rosettes with no fabric duplicates in each rosette. Once I get the rosettes done, I'll connect them and fill in with the left over hexies. At some point I will also have to make the denim pillow. LOL.

Did you catch the vest on Bonnie's blog that was made from a cutter quilt? I have not been able to get it off my mind since it was posted on 3/15/14. I am thinking of using this burnt orange fabric for the path and the cream (hexie!) fabric for the neutral. The blue and purple I just pulled off my messy table cuz I thought they looked nice together. What do you think about the orange? It's been one of my fav fabrics lately but how will it look on a vest? Too dark? My other thought would be all batiks...

I did pull out some of my hexie UFOs last night - Some will be easy to finish and I want to get them back in to rotation. I also found my 1/2" hexie papers with a project I hadn't remembered starting. Anyone know how to get an extra 2 hours a day? I need them to make progress on all these projects...

And, because I was trying to figure out when I became a hexie-aholic for something else, I think this might be it! A little trip down memory lane!

Don't worry, I'm still plugging away on the twisted hexies at work during lunch time...

Design Wall Monday

It was a hexie weekend!!
I spent Saturday teaching a quilting 101 class and half of Sunday rearranging boxes and stuff to fit in my brother's old bedroom set but he got called in to work because of the weather. Oh well. I spent the rest of Sunday watching Firefly on DVD and working on various hexie projects :)

I am finally working on my February hexie BOM (1") project and with just a few days to spare. Yikes. This pink fabric has chocolates on it. I will need twice as many hexies to finish the heart.

I was also gifted some of the purple fabric towards the denim pillow I am making with my birthday hexies (.75") from hexie club. I need to lay out the purple hexies I have so I can decide how many more to make.

I also finished these twisted hexies over the last week.

This morning I had some company to work on them as well!! Within touching distance and no growling. Whoo Hoo!  =^..^=

For all I've talked about not starting something new before the twisted hexies are done, class samples don't count. That's what this next bundle is - a project for hexie club. I'm thinking I'll use 1.5" hexies (can you see the clear template?) but haven't really decided just yet. I only know it will be a small project, just a table runner or topper.

Design Wall Monday - 11/4/13

Hmm...more and more this Design Wall Monday is just becoming Hexie Monday. LOL. It's about the only thing I've had time for besides CrazyFallJob#2 and bazaar prep.

I did well this past weekend and now I am preparing for the next two :^)

2 completely done and now it's time to set them aside for a bit so I can finish some older hexie UFOs.

Purple hexies are for the denim pillow I plan to make.
Orange hexies were a swap at Hexie Club to make a pumpkin colored table mat for fall.

Unfortunately, I can't show you my last pieced hexie project as it's a little bit of a secret. I'll give you a hint that it includes candy canes and it's *adorable*!! It will be done by the next Hexie Club meeting on 12/6/13 so I'll share then. I promise!
