Wednesday Weather Report #193 - 1/27/21

I'm not sure what I'm doing right but ....  my little cactus is blossoming again!

It blossoms at the most random times which makes it really hard to try to replicate what makes it blossom. I also have a mistletoe cactus which looks like it might be getting ready to blossom. The friend who gave me the cutting said it blossoms in the spring but some online research says it can blossom at any time of the year. I think I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and not rock the boat. I find it's the best way to deal with plants who seem to be happy.

January 20 - 26, 2021
22 - 33 - 28 - 18 - 23 - 32 - 28 F

It's been a pretty mild January in the grand scheme of things - our average for the month so far is 31.2F. This is the fourth January of my project and previous years have had a much wider range during the month. The lowest being -1 in 2018 and the highest of 64 last year. That's quite a range! This year's min/18 and max/40 are pretty boring in comparison.

Did you notice the symmetry of this week's colors/temps? I know - I'm amused by the craziest things.

Happy Hump Day!

Feline Friday - 1/22/21

 Peek-a-boo!

Stitch faster Momma - there's another clue coming out this weekend!!

I'll stay right here to help while you work on the mothership! I wouldn't mind a snack once in a while if you have the time...

==============
Momma here:  I've done the quilt math - yes, I'm that nerd - we've had 10 clues so far. In the first six we were to do 529 hexies. The last 4 has 522. I'm only working on clue #6 so I'm not even half way caught up. I was all energized to keep plugging along until I did the math to find out I'm not even half way there plus another clue will be out on Sunday. Don't do the math people. Just don't. Sometimes ignorance is bliss when it comes to large projects.

Wednesday Weather Report #192 - 1/20/21

 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!!!

Ok, so it's still less snow than in Texas but I did have to shovel this morning as our 3 day total is somewhere around 12". And since we are still in near drought conditions, every inch counts!

Wednesday Weather Report #191 - 1/13/21

This is what I get for leaving my weather hexies until the last minute... but money trumps hexies.

 I was given the opportunity to go to the school this week to sell masks. Guess what I've been doing instead of hexies? It feels like ages since I've done a single hexie of any kind. Sad. Just like the weather. We have no snow, no rain and no sun. We are just kind of in a middle ground wasteland at the moment. I mean Texas has gotten more snow than us so far this winter. It's hard to imagine.

This has prompted me to update the spreadsheet where I should have been recording the daily temps since I began this project kin 2017. It's gonna take me a little bit to get that done but I look forward to seeing if we are relatively the same each month or there is a weird outlier. Well, ok, I already found one outlier (stop trying to hide in the corner November) but I'll still looking for others.

Feline Friday - 1/8/20

 I've been helping Momma around the house...

Last weekend Momma was trimming HSTs to make more itsy bitsy blocks for her Omigosh quilt. It's a pretty tedious process so I decided to help. It worked cuz she stopped and appeared to be done right away.

She's also been spending lots of time on the couch working on her mystery quilt. I like to lie down with her sometimes when she's using my fleece blanket. Sometimes I even let her give me some belly rubs.

Yes... in my old age I have finally discovered I like belly rubs.
Cranky old men are allowed to change their minds at any time so please don't judge me...

Wednesday Weather Report #190 - 1/6/20

I guess I can only say that our weather has been pretty dull lately. The temperature is fairly consistent and there is no snow or sunshine. That pretty well covers it, as sad as it is.

December 30 - 31, 2020 :: 40 - 32 F
January 1 - 5, 2021 :: 32 - 35 - 34 - 32 - 32 F

I'm still plodding along on my mystery quilt as well as working on several leader ender projects that just need to get moved along, like my Omigosh quilt. I'll try to get some pics soon.

This is last call to send a birthday cake block!! Please check this page for more info. If you think you'll be sending a block that might not make it here by my birthday please let me know so I can save you space in the quilt. I hope I've said this before but thank you to everyone who has sent a block. It's so fun to see all the different fabrics and I mean it - not a single duplicate yet!

The Bibliophile Files - 1/5/21

Hello and Welcome to a new year of The Bibliophile Files - my monthly list of the books I've read. I'm proud to say that I finished 101 book last year!! It was kinda dicey in the first half of the year but I pulled through in the end and went well above my goal.

goodreads.com says that my 101 books was 32,641 pages - which is hilarious because I listen to almost all my books. My shortest book was 60 pages and the longest was 512. The most popular book I read was Educated and the least popular was A Christmas Carol (the female version - I get why it was un-popular).

I've set my 2021 reading goal for my usual 90 books. If you are also interested in a goal I suggest you get a free goodreads account (and the phone app) as it will not only track your books but make suggestions for your next book. It's also great when you get to the library and can't remember if you already read a book that looks interesting. Be sure to let me know you have an account so we can be "friends".

FINISHED
     The Midnight Line
     Fortune and Glory - this is newest book in the long standing Stefanie Plum series - they've just changed the way they name the books.
     The Laws of Innocence - #6 in the Mickey Haller (Lincoln Lawyer) series - it was a nice twist of a jailed lawyer defending himself.
     The Christmas Box - a quick little Christmas story.
     The Christmas Pearl - a supernatural Christmas story - I'm not so sure I like a mix of the two genres.
     Murder with Macaroni & Cheese - a new to me series that involves murder and cooking. I *do* like this mix of two genres!
     The Last to Die

IN PROGRESS
     To Tell You the Truth - a psychological mystery. I keep trying to guess what's happening - is it real or imagined? - but I keep getting it wrong.

And now it's your turn - what have you read recently? Anything counts: novel, magazine, quilt pattern or cereal box.

Feline Friday and Happy New Year - 1/1/21

It's a new year!! 2020 is over! Woot!

Do I feel any different? Nope.. not even a little. Phooey. When does that kick in? Do I need to make some resolutions first? How does this work?

This was my favorite gift from Christmas day. Ok - so it was really a gift for Momma but look at that exquisite shiny paper and the insides were soft and squishy. Heaven on earth.

Even better - the box is now on Momma's lap. I stayed here until Momma's feet fell asleep and she started wiggling.

Sleepin’ with da fishes!!

Better yet was when Momma put my new floppy fish (from GrandMomma and GrandPoppa!) in the box for a pillow. I could stay here for hours...Ahhhhhhh.....
